2011 Cheapest Place to Holiday Revealed

If you’re looking for value for money this year when it comes to making your holiday Euros go that little bit further then, according to the Post Office Travel Money poll, the 2011 cheapest place to holiday this year is… Spain!

The poll, that researches destinations all across the globe, for value for money by comparing a number of products likely to be purchased whilst holidaying; the cost of a 3-course meal and nine ‘every day items’ such as suntan lotion, insect repellent and a bottle of beer. In Spain, these items cost just £42.15.

The poll found that Spain (comparison made in Spain’s Costa del Sol) is actually cheaper today, than it was in 2007 by a whopping 36%. And as such it seems that us Britons are more than every hitting the country’s mainland and islands in search of winter and summer sun. In fact, so far this year the county is experiencing 11% more UK holiday makers than the same time last year.

And it’s not just holiday essentials that are coming down in price either, Spanish hotels are reportedly cheaper too, in a bid to encourage tour operators and independent travellers alike to visit the country this year.

This comes after the country, that many holiday makers felt was getting too expensive, seeing a drop in British tourists last year by almost 20%.

Take for example, Monarch. They have seen increases in passenger numbers to popular Spanish destinations by 110%.

Interestingly, in the 14 published results, the UK’s city of Brighton came out tenth most expensive, higher than UK favourite destinations such as Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.

The most expensive destination identified from the poll was the US’s Miami – to buy the same products there it would cost £92.81, that’s £50.66 more expensive than Spain!

So if you’re feeling the pinch this year, but in desperate need of a holiday, perhaps you should look into a week or two in Spain this year.
