BMW X6, a brief history – Ideal Engines

The X6 model basically known as coupe version of X5, was proposed at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. BMW X6 series has two variants in petrol engine xDrive50i and diesel engine X6 xDrive35i. The first model in petrol engine xDrive50i uses twin-turbocharged V8 which produces 408 PS between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and 600 NM of torque over a wide range of between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm.  The second model X6 xDrive35i uses N54 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine which producing 306 PS between 5800 and 6250 rpm, and a peak torque of 400 NM between 1400 and 5000 rpm. In case of diesel engine which also has two variants xDrive30d and xDrive35d, respectively. They are powered by BMW’s 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine, and produce 286 PS in the xDrive35d version. The difference with xDrive35d is that xDrive30d produces 235 PS.

There are many ways in which energy is saved in the X6 series in particular hybrid technology and some engine controlling mechanism. The following briefs complete details.  In 2009 BMW introduced BMW Active Hybrid X6 consists of a 300 kW (407 hp) V8 power unit with BMW Twin Power Turbo Technology and two electric engines developing 67 kW (91 hp) and, respectively, 63 kW (86 hp.)  BMW Active Hybrid technology offers three significant options first to drive under electric power alone second to use the power of the combustion engine and third combination of both drive.

The turbo charged M V8 Engine develops its outstanding power with remarkable efficiency. BMW X6 has equipped with range of different technologies include on demand control of the electric fuel pump, on demand compressor for the air conditioner and flow control supply of the hydraulic fluid to the active roll stabilization system. So using these ranges of technologies energy consumption can be minimized.  

Both in the X5 and X6 series designed to withstand for crashes and has crash safety and supreme agility. It addition to external safeguards it has frontal and hip/thorax airbags as well as curtain head airbags to protect the front and rear part of the passengers body. In order to prevent spinal injuries front seat crash activated and also rear seat fitted with child seat anchors. All restraint systems are activated by the central safety electronics which detects the type and severity of the accident and accordingly it activates the safety equipments. On the whole X6 series gives better driving experience to driver with less CO2 emission being environment friendly too.

BMW X5, a brief history – Ideal Engines

The BMW X5 is beautifully designed, luxury mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV), introduced in 1999, the first generation of which was the E53. It is the very first ever SUV in the BMW family and including a four wheel drive, allowing each of the wheels to receive torque from the engine simultaneously. And, as always, it’s available in automatic and manual transmissions. The second generation of the X5, known as the E70, was launched in 2006, with the impressive M version which was announced in 2009. BMW has described the X5 as a Sports Activity Vehicle as opposed to a Sports Utility Vehicle to bring to light the maneuverability and drivability despite the large size. And E70 3.0si for petrol, has the horse power of 272 with RPM of 6600 and 200kW, and has the top speed of 225 km/h. And the 3.0sd for diesel, has the horse power of 286 with RPM of 4400 and 210kW, and has the top speed of 235 km/h. And the 4.8i has the horse power of 355 with RPM of 6300 and 261kW, and has the top speed of 240 km/h. And this new E70 model is featuring a longer wheelbase and it consists with a new breed of 6 cylinders engines 3.0L V8 for both petrol and diesel and 4.8L V8 for diesel.

And the E70, the second generation of this BMW series features many new technological advancements for this class, with additions and standard equipment including I Drive system, electronic gearshift (no mechanical connection to the gearbox), LED tail lights, the first ever all polypropylene, single fender module and a variety of options such as the HUD, active steering, active drag damping, and Dynamic Drive which uses active anti-roll bars in the middle to actively counteract body roll.

The interior of the new generation is impressive and vastly different from the E53. It comes equipped with an obnoxiously large center mounted display screen in E70 including  many comfort options to the passenger such as a glass panorama roof, another first for BMW, an optional third row seat which has increased the seating capacity in E70 to 7 passengers, etc.

History of the BMW 5 Series – Ideal Engines and Gearboxes

In 1972 the german car company BMW introduced the 5 series model line. The 5 series was first launched as a mid sized executive car and was originally released in both sedan and touring versions. The name of the 5 series derived from the fact that it was the fifth of the “new series” vehicles after the Isetta era. The 5 series is the second best selling BMW in the world following the 3 series. Over the years there have been six different generations of the 5 series, to make it easier for them to tell the difference between each BMW started referring to them by their chassis codes.

The first generation of the 5 series ran from 1972 through 1981 and was known as the E12 bodystyle, the models produced during this era were as follows: 518, 520, 521i, 525, 530, 530i, 530 Motorsport Limited Edition, M535i.

The second generation of the 5 series ran from 1982 through 1988. This bodystyle was known as the E28 and included various changes to design including thicker bumper surrounds and larger rectangular tail lights. The rear of the vehicle was made to give a more squared off appearance. Models produced during this era were as follows: 518, 518i, 520i, 524d, 524td, 525i, 525e, 528i, 530i, 535i, M535i, M5.

The third generation of the 5 series ran from 1988 through 1996 and was classified as the E34 bodystyle, models in production for this generation were: 518i, 518g, 520i, 520i ECE, 524td, 525td, 525tds, 525i, 525ix, 530i, 535i, 540i, and the M5.

The fourth generation of the 5 series was built from 1995 through 2003, the bodystyle classification for this version was E39. The E39 was widely praised and it even made it to car and drivers ten best list. This 5 series became the benchmark of its class among other manufacturers as it had earned the highest rating ever in 2001 in consumer reports magazine. Models available during this generation were: 520i, 523i, 525i, 528i, 530i, 535i, 540i, M5, 520d, 525d, 525td, 525tds, and the 530d.

The fifth generation of the 5 series was known as the E60 or E61 bodystyle and was produced from 2003 through 2010. With a total redesign of exterior looks and interior electronics it has received mixed reviews because of its non traditional BMW design. This new generation has become the heart of the BMW brand and currently brings in about twenty percent of the company’s overall profits. Models in production for this fifth generation include: 520d, 520i, 523i, 525ix, 525i, 530i, 530ix, 530x, 530xd, 535d and the M5.

The sixth generation of the 5 series went into production in 2010 and is still being produced today. This generation is known as the F10 or F11 bodystyle. The overall look of the vehicle was changed to be more aerodynamic and pleasing to the eye, while the interior was tailored to further comfort the driver in many different aspects.

History of the Toyota Previa – Ideal Engines and Gearboxes

Toyota introduced the first Previa model in 1990, the name was derived from the word “preview” in Italian. This vehicle is also known as the Estima in some markets. The first Previa’s came equipped with one sliding side door for rear passengers to enter along with two front doors for driver and passenger. The Previa was equipped with a unique mid engine design installed almost flat in the vehicle between both front seats. Some of the benefits of installing the engine like this were the ease servicing once the front seats were unclipped and folded back out of the way. All the engine driven ancillaries such as the alternator, power steering air conditioning compressor and the cooling fan were located under the front bonnet.

The accessories were driven by an additional accessory driveshaft. This set up allowed for even weight distribution which helped ride quality and handling. The first generation of the Previa was available in both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive this was called all trac by Toyota. They were available with a four speed automatic gearbox or a five speed manual box. Seating arrangements allowed for configurations of up to eight available seats.Additional points of interest about this first generation would be: The manual five speed previas released in north America between 1991 and 1993 did not come with supercharged versions.Vehicles sold outside the US had the option of an ice maker/refrigerator which doubled as a beverage heater so was actually a hot/cold box.

The second generation of the Previa was released in 2000 and run until 2006. It now had a slightly longer wheelbase than the original and was slightly more narrow and shorter than its predecessor. Toyota changed the exterior design to incorporate two sliding rear doors to make entry and exiting the vehicle for all passengers. Models were available with both petrol and diesel engine configurations. Either could have a five speed manual transmission or a four speed automatic. 

The third generation of the Previa was introduced n 2006 and is still in production today. These came with such electronic advancements as automatic parallel and back in parking, track mounted second row seating with passenger foot rests, also available was power folding third row seats. The engines available for the new generation are still either the petrol or diesel offerings as well as a hybrid electric/petrol variant to help the environment.

The BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) company is a German manufacturing company which produces automobiles, motorcycles and engines. BMW also owns the MINI brand and produces those as well. The motorcycles BMW produces are marketed under BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna tags. BMW is also the parent company of the Rolls Royce Motor Company.

BMW started its existence in 1917 as a restructure of the Rapp Motorenworke aircraft manufacturing firm. In 1918, after World War 1 BMW was forced to stop production of the aircraft engines under the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The company then shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 after the restrictions of the treaty began to be lifted. Automobile production then followed in late 1928.

In 1959, BMW was having serious financial problems within its automotive division. A meeting was called of its share holders to determine whether the company should go into liquidation or to struggle through and find a way to carry on. The share holders decided to carry on and try to make the most of the current economic car boom. At this time BMW bought the rights to manufacture the Italian Iso Isetta, these tiny cars were powered by a modified BMW motorcycle engine. This helped BMW make it through their financial difficulties.

In 1992 BMW purchased a large stake in a California based industrial design studio called DesignworksUSA. The acquisition was completed in 1995. During this era BMW also purchased the rover group which at the time consisted of the rover, land rover and MG brands. BMW kept these brands for six years before deciding to sell them on because rover was making huge losses.

After all of the difficulties of the past BMW was making a name for itself in the automotive industry. By 2006 BMW produced over 1,300,000 four wheel vehicles, which were being manufactured in five different countries. By 2010 production numbers have increased to over 1,400,000 four wheel drive vehicles and another 112,000 motorcycles worldwide.

With varying models to suit many different drivers expectations BMW has built a reputation in both the performance market with models such as their M3, the Luxury market with their 5-6-7 series and in the 4×4 market with the X5. There is something for everyone in the one common brand. Giving worldwide appeal and being noted for dependability BMW looks to be a strong brand for many years to come.
